Summer of Love starring Michele Lee  at the Ogunquit Playhouse until July 16th!

Be prepared for a head on collision between cultures when a conservative bride runs away from the altar and runs into a VW Bus full of hippies from Haight-Ashbury, in the East Coast premiere of Summer of Love, on stage June 22 to July 16 at the Ogunquit Playhouse. With a little help from the hippies and dropouts of San Francisco, she comes to realize she has to make her own kind of music! This new musical by Roger Bean showcases the powerful music of the late 1960s by some of the most influential artists of the love generation including The Mamas and the Papas, Donovan, Janis Joplin and Jefferson Airplane, with songs that include: “Dream a Little Dream of Me,” “Get Together,” “Piece of My Heart,” “White Rabbit,” “Spinning Wheel,” “Happy Together” and many more! Take a trip down memory lane, remember your glory days and most of all enjoy the music!

Show Support for a 1% Increase in the School Budget

This year, the South Portland City Council has instructed the South Portland School Board to come up with a 2011/12 budget that does not include any increase in spending from last year (a zero percent increase).  Last year, the City Council gave the same instruction to the School Board, which resulted in cuts to staffing and programming.  Because of the rise in supplies and services to the school, the increase in heating, fuel and gasoline prices, and other salary increases, a zero percent actually results in a step back for our schools, our kids, and our community.  If passed, this will mean job losses and cuts in important and necessary programs and services that directly impact our children. 

Please come to the City Council meeting to show community support for a 1% increase in the school budget.  This minimal increase is important to
