Amazon has just entered the cloud music business, beating Apple and Google. How does their plan work?
5G free or 20G if you buy an album from Amazon
You can buy more space at $1/G
I have about 130G on my iPod right now, or $200 for the year to host it.
Also, although there's an Android app, nothing for Apple so far
Are the record companies OK with this?
Actually, Amazon upset them by going live with out their permission. The record companies see this as an attack on their license, Amazon sees it as no different than saving your mp3s to your hard drive.
What other services are out there?
Two similar services are mSpot and ZumoDrive. Both work on multiple platforms and mobile devices. You upload your music to them and then you can stream it from anywhere. Both offer some free space (1G for Zumo, 5G for mSpot.) However, uploading your music can take a LOOOONG time!
Rdio is another option. $5/month, but you don't need to upload anything and you have access to all the music. You can even download it for offline use.
