GM Pollack jewelry closing final store
News

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- One of Maine's longtime family businesses is going away.

G.M. Pollack & Sons Jewelers is shutting down after 60 years in business. The South Portland store posted going out of business signs this week, but the store manager told NEWS CENTER their stores in Rockland, Ellsworth and Sanford shutdown on Wednesday, and the Waterville store closed last Saturday.

The manager said the closings are simply a matter of economics. The Pollack family sold the business to some of the employees in 2008, and the chain had consolidated over the past few months.

The manager of the South Portland store said all of the customer jewelry repair and service items from the other stores are being brought to the South Portland store.

She said customers will need to go to that one store to claim their items. The company said the South Portland store will stay open for another two weeks at least for people to claim their items and longer if needed.
