News

Portland, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -  The 47th Annual WCSH 6 Sidewalk Art Festival was another success for artists and attendees alike. Cool morning fog dissipated by 9:00am. Festival-goers flocked to downtown Portland throughout a perfect-weather day; many were reluctant to leave even as the show was closing! Many shoppers were eager to indulge themselves in art - a beautiful object that gives joy every day.

The WCSH 6 Sidewalk Art Festival is a professionally judged show. The 2012 awards are as follows:

First Place Festival Award: Kathleen Buchanan, Thomaston, ME

Second Place Festival Award: Pamela Jo Ellis, Rangeley, ME

Third Place Festival Award: Heidi Wilde, Livermore Falls, ME

WCSH 6 Festival Purchase Prize: Catherine Meeks, Acton, MA

Winners of prizes 1, 2, and 3 retain ownership of their winning artwork. The artwork selected for prize 4 becomes part of the WCSH 6 Permanent Collection. All prizes include cash awards. Although not part of consideration for the prizes, all of this year's winning artists are repeat participants of the WCSH 6 Sidewalk Art Festival; for Ms. Ellis, this is her 20th year. This year's judges include Henry Bonner (Board member, Boothbay Region Art Foundation), Kimberly Curry, Mark Haltof, Mark Hagen, and Mike Moltby (local artists), and Lauren Silverson (a museum professional for more than 20 years).

The WCSH 6 Sidewalk Art Festival is the oldest and largest one-day art show in Northern New England, welcoming hundreds of artists and tens of thousands of shoppers. Congress Street in the Arts District is closed to vehicular traffic to make the day even more enjoyable for all. Many artists count on this as their most profitable day all year. Local businesses report they do a landslide business on this day. The WCSH 6 Sidewalk Art Festival is organized and administered by WCSH 6.

Save the Date: The 48th Annual WCSH 6 Sidewalk Art Festival will be held August 24, 2013. Artist applications will be available on WCSH6.com starting March 1, 2013.
