Portland, Maine – Community Counseling Center has launched a new website: www.commcc.org.  The dramatically redesigned site was created by VONT, an internet marketing firm located in Westbrook, Maine.  The site embodies Community Counseling Center’s forward-thinking vision and commitment to the growing needs of its clients.  The website provides rich content, direct access to program managers and intake staff, and streamlined searching for appropriate finding programs and services. 

“This website was designed so that clients and visitors could easily access the information they needed about our services and programs,” said Erin Smith, Community Relations and Grant Manager.

A Family Guide to Supporting a Loved One
Scarborough, ME – Hospice of Southern Maine and the Alzheimer’s Association will present several workshops across southern Maine to help families cope with and support a loved one dealing with Alzheimer’s or dementia.
The 90-minute workshop will be presented by Carol Palmer, an RN and program director with the Maine chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.  Ms. Palmer, a former trauma nurse, hospice nurse and lead nurse for the office of adults with mental illnesses also served as a director of forensics and is a Viet Nam era veteran. She has been providing training about dementia and related conditions and behaviors for nearly ten years.
The workshops are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.

South Portland’s Cancer Community Center Selected as a Stop on 12-City Book Tour

South Portland, Maine (March 8, 2011) – Maine Native, Susan Conley, has begun her twelve-city national book tour.  The Cancer Community Center in South Portland will be one of her first stops on Tuesday, March 15th from 6-7 pm. Her new breast cancer memoir, The Foremost Good Fortune chronicles Susan’s experience of breast cancer while living with her family in Beijing, China.

Praised by Publishers Weekly as a book that "pulls the reader into her world like a close friend," Susan’s writing offers a compelling look at how breast cancer affects the whole family system, and traces how she and her family came to a place of understanding within the world of cancer.

Bicycle Coalition of Maine Sends Delegation to National Bike Summit

Augusta - A five-member delegation from the Bicycle Coalition of Maine will participate in the National Bike Summit on March 8-10 in Washington, D.C.
 
The annual gathering of bicycle advocates from throughout the country will include a keynote address by U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and workshops on a variety of bicycle-related topics.  The Maine delegation will visit all four of Maine’s congressional representatives to discuss bicycling issues.

 Scarborough Gym Dandies celebrate 30th Anniversary performance

On March 31st and April 1st, Scarborough’s Gym Dandies will hold their 30th annual Community Performance.  The Gym Dandies is a children’s circus featuring such feats as having 80+ unicyclists perform on “giraffe” unicycles (where the seat is on a long “neck” about 6-feet off the ground), routines featuring up to 200 children simultaneously unicycling, globe walkers (who and jump rope and hoola hoop while balancing on the large balls), stilt walkers, jugglers who can juggle 3, 4 and even 5 balls, jugglers who can “share” (by having 2 people juggle as if they were one person), “steal” (where one person juggles, and without missing a beat, a teammate comes and juggles away their balls), and throw juggling pins up to 10 feet away to awaiting partners, off-road unicycling where performers ride up ramps and jump on and off boxes and other obstacles, and Scarborough’s favorite: unihockey … with all the thrills and spills of ice hockey, except played on unicycles!
