PLANET DOG ANNOUNCES WINNER OF COVER DOG CHALLENGE

Planet Dog is barking about the winner of their Cover Dog Challenge that took place at Woofminster, the Fifth Annual Planet Dog Foundation (PDF) Amateur Dog Show Fundraiser, held recently at Camp Ketcha in Scarborough, Maine.  The popular annual event which was sponsored by L.L.Bean, Color Me Mine, Dances with Dogs and Macomber, Inc., raised over $5,000 to support Guiding Eyes for the Blind's Maine puppy-raising team.  
 
About 250 dog-loving attendees, vendors and volunteers participated in the event, with over 100 dogs watching or competing in fun and silly contests including; Best Mystery Mutt, Best Trick, Happiest Dog and Best Beggar.  "It was wonderful to see the dog community come together for a fun event to help raise money to support the Maine puppy-raisers of Guiding Eyes for the Blind," says Kristen Smith, the Executive Director of PDF.  "In addition to giving their time and love to the puppies, the volunteer raisers are also responsibl

Catherine McAuley High School Open House for Prospective Students

Catherine McAuley High School, Maine’s only Catholic college-preparatory school for young women, will be hosting its annual Open House for prospective students and their families on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at 2pm. Young women of all faiths are invited to our campus at 631 Stevens Avenue, Portland, for a program that will feature student and alum speakers. Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine Appoint New Club Director

Jen Pierce was recently appointed to Unit Director of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine, South Portland Clubhouse.

Jen has worked in the Boys & Girls Clubs movement for over fifteen years and brings her dedication to youth to her leadership at the South Portland Clubhouse. She grew up in Presque Isle, Maine and graduated from University of Maine Farmington.  Jen lives with her husband, Heath and son, Brady in Saco.

Jen will continue bringing quality programming to youth in South Portland as she fills the role of Unit Director previously held by John “Slim” Lee for the past 36 years. Lee is serving as a senior consultant in a semi-retired role at the Clubhouse. One initiative Jen aims to enhance is programming focused on teens aspirations for post-secondary education and career opportunities. She is also working with community partners to further expand the reach of the Clubs programs within South Portland communities.
