Pratt's Brook Park - A Gem in Yarmouth

Pratt's Brook Park - A Gem in Yarmouth

Last week, my team of canine hikers scouted out yet another fantastic locale for woods walking, stream swimming and generalized off-leash adventure!  They give “two paws way UP” to Pratt’s Brook Park in Yarmouth!

Located off North Road as you head away from Route One towards Cumberland, this 220-acre tract of preserved land offers over seven miles of walking trails.  The routes are well-marked and there are trail maps and a kiosk with information at the trail head.  The parking area is located well off the main road and has plenty of parking for up to 30 cars.  On the Friday afternoon that we enjoyed the park, we were the only car in the lot.

Disc Golfing: Family, friendly, fun!

Disc Golfing: Family, friendly, fun!

If you are looking for something to do outside this summer with your family, make sure you check out Pleasant Hill Disc Golf in Scarborough. "What is disc golf?", you ask? Disc golf is golf, but with discs! It's easy to learn and very affordable. They are independently owned and operated. Their 18-hole, 40 acre course, which is a former traditional ball golf course has plenty of wide opened throwing areas [perfect for those of use that may not have the best aim ;)], as well as some fun water hazards! They welcome all playing levels, from beginner to pro as well as dogs! Yes, that's right, you can bring your fur baby! But of course, only well-behaved, socialized, and non-aggressive dogs are allowed and you must pick up all poops. ;)

They are opened 7 days a week from 9:00AM to 8:00PM.

Summer of Love starring Michele Lee at the Ogunquit Playhouse until July 16th!

Summer of Love starring Michele Lee at the Ogunquit Playhouse until July 16th!

Be prepared for a head on collision between cultures when a conservative bride runs away from the altar and runs into a VW Bus full of hippies from Haight-Ashbury, in the East Coast premiere of Summer of Love, on stage June 22 to July 16 at the Ogunquit Playhouse. With a little help from the hippies and dropouts of San Francisco, she comes to realize she has to make her own kind of music! This new musical by Roger Bean showcases the powerful music of the late 1960s by some of the most influential artists of the love generation including The Mamas and the Papas, Donovan, Janis Joplin and Jefferson Airplane, with songs that include: “Dream a Little Dream of Me,” “Get Together,” “Piece of My Heart,” “White Rabbit,” “Spinning Wheel,” “Happy Together” and many more! Take a trip down memory lane, remember your glory days and most of all enjoy the music!

Trucking for Kids Convoy

Come join us at Scarborough Downs in Scarborough, Maine, rain or shine, for a day of fun, food, and prizes! All our proceeds go to benefit Camp Sunshine, a retreat for critically ill children and their families, as well as local D.A.R.E. and Office Friendly Community Policing Programs for Children. In addition to the Convoy itself, the event will feature a Drivers Skill Competition, judging on the best looking trucks—including a kid’s choice category, face painting, live kid friendly music, a cookout, prize raffles and an auction. The day starts at 8 and winds down around 3. Check out our website at www.mpda.org/trucking4kids/ or find us on Facebook to learn more!

Mountain Division Trail - Worth the Trip!

Mountain Division Trail - Worth the Trip!

*This is the second in a series of blogs highlighting cool places to romp with your dog.

Are you willing to drive about 20 minutes from Portland to take your dog for a cooling swim on a hot summer afternoon?  Heck, you could probably hop in with him or her and cool off yourself!  Take River Road from Westbrook to Windham.  Cross 202 at the light and then look for Gambo Road on your left.  Take Gambo Road and look for signs marking the trail head and parking area for the Mountain Division Trail.  Adventure awaits!

The Mountain Division Trail is an amazing network of trails that eventually will connect Portland to Fryeburg via 52 miles of superbly-maintained paths, most of which are tarred and meander alongside defunct railroad tracks.  Ample parking, portable toilets and a kiosk with trail maps greets you at the trailhead in Windham, on mile 12 of the trail system.
