The event is sponsored by the Maine Health Care Association (MHCA) and Sysco Food Service of Northern New England.

Teams will have 2 hours to complete the task and will be judged on a 100-point scale by a team of certified chefs, including Sysco Executive Chef Gary Sheldon. Life is good Thanksgiving Event

We need your help decorating our store for the Holidays!

Join us at Life is good on November 20th to celebrate Thanksgiving by creating a "Thank you Chain." You will be able to write down or draw what you are thankful for, or a good deed that you have done, on a strip of paper.  We will assemble them into a festive chain that will hang in our store.  How long can we make it!

We will also be holding a food drive to benefit the Good Shepard Food Bank.  Non-perishable food items will be collected on that day and will be brought to the Portland warehouse.

Kid friendly with coloring, popcorn, stickers, and balloons.

Don't forget, we accept donations to our Life is good Kids Foundation at the store.  Lets see how much we can raise this holiday season.  Hope to see you there.

Southern Maine Community College Hosts U.S. Department of Education Senior Advisor

Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) will welcome Greg Darnieder, Senior Advisor to U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, for a two-day visit to the College as part of a listening tour on college access in northern New England.

Darnieder will be visiting SMCC to learn about the College’s efforts and successes in increasing access to higher education, especially in rural areas, which have contributed to SMCC’s status as the fastest-growing community college in New England. Other topics during the two-day visit will include college readiness, particularly in mathematics, and dual enrollment in both high school and college.

“This visit from the U.S. Department of Education is an extremely valuable opportunity for us to share our many successes in increasing college access, not only SMCC but across Maine, but most importantly to work with Senior Advisor Darnieder in seeking solutions to the barriers that remain,” said Dr. Jim Ortiz, SMCC President.

Childsplay in concert

The fiddle extravaganza known as Childsplay will be appearing in Portland on Saturday evening, December 4th at 8 PM at the Portland High School Auditorium. Childsplay features some of the best fiddlers in the nation, from Boston Symphony violinists to all-Ireland fiddle champions to national fiddling champions. Formed in 1986, the special sound of Childsplay lies not only in the skill of the musicians but in the warm familial timbre of the instruments they play – a quality similar to the vocal blending of singers from the same family. Known to its audience as a celebration of spirited, innovative, and exuberant music, this special evening will allow the audience a rare glimpse into the intricate weavings of the beautiful singing of Mollie O'Brien (if you listen to Prairie Home Companion you have heard Mollie sing many times!)  with the voices of the violins made by the same violinmaker.
