USCG Helicopter/Boat Training - Casco Bay

USCG Helicopter/Boat Training - Casco Bay
USCG helicopter training with Station South Portland that was originally scheduled for December 21st has been tentatively re-scheduled for Monday December 27th at 2:15 p.m., again weather dependent. Tuesday the 28th may serve as an alternate day. An HH-65 Dolphin Helicopter from Air Station Atlantic City will conduct rescue hoist training with a 47' motor life boat from Station South Portland, as depicted in the attached photo. This is a routine training opportunity for our crews to hone skills as we move into the winter search and rescue season. Media interested in capturing imagery of the training should plan to be at the Portland Fire Boat moorings (adjacent to Casco Bay Lines) by 2:15 p.m. on the 27th. Fire Boat will serve as the platform from which to view USCG training evolution. A CG rep will confirm whether or not it is a go by approximately 10:00 a.m. Monday.

Amongst the dusty records of the KDVS radio station at the University of California/Davis, Tom Shimura, who currently makes records as Lyrics Born, found too much to love. Sandwiched between gatefold LPs, 12-inch singles, dub versions and white-labels was a reservoir of inspiration that he would draw on for the following decades.

Scarborough Downs to honor 8 Standardbred race horses with special retirement ceremony on Sunday

Scarborough Downs to honor 8 Standardbred race horses with special retirement ceremony on Sunday

Scarborough, Maine (Dec. 16, 2010): Scarborough Downs is teaming up with the Standardbred Pleasure Horse Organization of Maine to honor the racing careers of those race horses who are retiring this season with a special ceremony during Sunday’s (December 19th) race program.

The event will honor eight 14-year-old Standardbred pacers and trotters who at one time raced at the Downs during their careers. Retirement is required for all Standardbred race horses at the end of their 14th year, as mandated by the US Trotting Association.

The horses scheduled to participate in the ceremony are:

Goblin Girl – a Maine-bred stakes star owned by Thomas Smith of Harrison, ME. Currently serving as a broodmare, she is the dam of Stonehollow Goblin who seemingly is following in mamma’s hoof prints having finished 2nd in this season’s two-year-old Maine Sire Stakes final.

Gypsy – Largely considered one of the greatest horses ever bred in Maine.
