Join The American Diabetes Association at Kick Off Event For 2014 Tour de Cure

In  conjunction with National Diabetes Awareness Month, the American Diabetes Association is kicking off its signature fundraiser in Maine: the 2014 Kennebunks Tour de Cure bike ride. The informational event will be held Thursday, November 14, 2013, at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel across from the Maine Mall from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

The Kick Off will offer informational tables on the American Diabetes Association and the Kennebunks Tour de Cure and also features various speakers promoting the mission of the American Diabetes Association's fight against diabetes. The Kick Off event is geared toward inspiring new Tour de Cure riders on the importance of fighting this disease and eliciting excitement in new and current riders in fundraising efforts to show the 26 million Americans living with diabetes they are not alone in this fight.

The speaking program begins at 6 p.m. People interested in riding and/or volunteering can attend part or all of the evening’s program, which is designed to acquaint people with past participants and their stories about the importance of the ADA’s mission.

Kick Off attendees will be eligible for prizes drawn throughout the evening. There will be complimentary hors d’oeuvres available as well as a cash bar.  The American Diabetes Association is leading the fight to stop diabetes and its deadly consequences and fighting for those affected by diabetes. The Association funds research to prevent, cure and manage diabetes;; delivers services to hundreds of communities;; provides objective and credible information;; and gives voice to those denied their rights because of diabetes. Founded in 1940, our mission is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

The Kennebunks Tour de Cure will take place on June 8, 2014, at the Wells Reserve at Laudholm to help raise critical funds for diabetes research, education and advocacy. Tour de Cure is designed for anyone from the occasional rider to the experienced cyclist, with 5-­kilometer, 25K, 50K, 100K, and 100-­mile routes available.

About American Diabetes Month - November is American Diabetes Month, a time to communicate the seriousness of diabetes and the importance of diabetes prevention and control. For years, the American Diabetes Association has used this month as an opportunity to raise awareness of the disease and its serious complications.

This year's fundraising goal of the Kennebunks Tour de Cure is $450,000. The ADA invest millions of dollars in New England, including the Jackson Lab research facility in Bar Harbor, Maine, and the Joslin Diabetes Centers in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
