Scarborough Community Chamber makes a $2,500 contribution to the Scarborough Fuel Assistance Program: The Chamber will match up to an additional $2,500 from Chamber member contribution

The Scarborough Community Chamber is proud to announce that they are making a $2,500 contribution to the Scarborough Fuel Assistance Program. What’s more, they will match up to an additional $2,500 from any contributions made by Chamber members.

"Once the Board of Directors learned of the Scarborough Fuel Assistance Program, and the partnership between the Town and Project G.R.A.C.E., we saw the opportunity to rally to the call and inspire others to join in. Our Board is very passionate about our community, and happy we had the ability to contribute to such a worthy cause.” said Art Dillon, volunteer President of the Scarborough Community Chamber.

The Scarborough Fuel Assistance Program is a collaboration between the Town of Scarborough and Project G.R.A.C.E. (Granting Resources and Assistance through Community Effort) to address the needs of Scarborough residents to keep warm this winter. Many Scarborough residents that are not eligible for public general fuel assistance, but are still in need, seek help from the program during the difficult winter months.

Last heating season, Project G.R.A.C.E. provided over $32,000 in home heating fuel assistance. It is anticipated that the need will be even greater for the 2011-2012 season. The Town and Project G.R.A.C.E. have partnered to conduct a campaign to raise the funds needed. Based on program guidelines and estimated oil prices, the goal to properly fund the program is $50,000.

“We are delighted that the Scarborough Community Chamber has stepped up to show tremendous leadership in the important community effort.  This generous donation and the challenge issued to its membership will jumpstart the fundraising campaign just in time to the heating season,” said Tom Hall, Scarborough Town Manager.
