Lung Association Event to Highlight Congressional Threats to Maine's Air Quality

The American Lung Association of Maine is holding its Annual Awards Ceremony & Luncheon, which will focus on the Clean Air Act and current proposals in the US House and Senate to weaken or delay healthy air standards

AUGUSTA, Maine - Peak foliage color has reached Rangeley, Farmington, Bethel, and the downeast coast, according to the fifth 2011 fall foliage report from the Maine Department of Conservation (MDOC).

Currently, Maine Forest Service and state park rangers are observing peak leaf color, or at least 75 percent color change, in the western lakes and mountains region, covering the towns of Rangeley, Kingfield, Farmington, Rumford and Bethel. Peak color is also being reported along the downeast coast from Bucksport to Eastport and in interior Hancock and Washington counties.

More foliage colors are beginning to show in northern Maine, according to the second 2011 fall foliage report from the Maine Department of Conservation (MDOC).

Currently, Maine Forest Service and state park rangers are observing low leaf color, or 10 to 30 percent toward peak, along with very low leaf drop in all of Aroostook County and northern portions of Piscataquis and Somerset counties.

Rangers believe that some sections of Aroostook County will see moderate color, or 30 to 50 percent toward peak, by this weekend. Foliage color and leaf drop in the remainder of the state is very low, or less than 10 percent, according to the report.

"Fall colors are starting to show along mountain ridges in Aroostook County," said Scott Thompson, park ranger at Aroostook State Park near Presque Isle.

Join to celebrate the power of recovery. Groups and individuals concerned with the continuing incidents of alcohol and drug abuse in the community are being encouraged to take part in the walk which is being organized and hosted by Catholic Charities Maine’s Counseling Services in partnership with Milestone Foundation, Crossroads for Women, Day One, Milestone, and Serenity House in celebration of National Alcohol and Drug Recovery Month.
