Gym Dandies Will be Celebrating 32 Years of Performing

The Gym Dandies will be celebrating their 32nd year of performing as a children's circus arts group in Scarborough this March 21st and 22nd.

The Gym Dandies have a lot to celebrate this year not only are they celebrating 32 years, but they were also chosen this past December to participate in the 2013 Inaugural Day Parade in Washington D.C.

The Gym Dandies was started in 1981 by a Scarborough Gym teacher, Jon Cahill. He decided to incorporate circus arts into the P.E. curriculum. He began with only with a box full of tennis balls and 10 enthusiastic children. Soon after having mastered new skills, the children wanted to perform, and thus The Gym Dandies was born. The Gym Dandies Children’s Circus has evolved into the largest continuously operating children’s circus arts program in the United States, and has over two hundred and twenty members participating annually, with an alumni group numbering in the thousands. Kids start participating in the program when they start in the 3rd grade and will often continue until they graduate High School

Jon, along with a strong parent support system and a group of dedicated kids has kept this program going for the past 32 years.
