Movies: "Bridesmaids"

Sigmund Freud once asked the question, “What do women really want?”  Thanks to “Bridesmaids,” we now have the answer:  to make us laugh uproariously.

You may have heard how this movie came to be.  Impressed by Kristen Wiig’s supporting performance in 2007’s “Knocked Up,” producer-director Judd Apatow told her that if she brought him a screenplay he’d put it on screen.   Wiig (who regularly steals the show on “Saturday Night Live”) got together with comedy sketch pal Annie Mumulo (who has a cameo in “Bridesmaids” as the nervous woman on the plane) to write this movie.

What to Expect in the AL Central

The 2011 baseball season is almost one quarter finished, and the AL Central standings still look upside down. The Twins have won six of the past nine division titles, ran away with last year’s crown, and brought back essentially the same (mostly) young team this year, only to start 2011 12-23, with the worst pitching in the majors (.2 team WAR) and the third worst hitting (1.1 WAR). The White Sox finished second last year, picked up slugger Adam Dunn, and are currently 15-23, worse than any team in baseball except the Twins and Astros.

Movies: "Jumping the Broom"

Hollywood just loves wedding movies -- it makes so many of them.  And why not?  A wedding is a self-contained story arc with multiple characters.  There's romance, family intrigue, hot bridesmaids, hunky best men, lots of drinking and emotions running high.

Did I mention hot bridesmaids?

"Jumping the Broom" is a small wedding movie set in the prestigious African-American enclave of Martha's Vineyard (but mostly shot in tax-sheltered Nova Scotia), featuring a talented black cast, most of whom come from various TV series.

At center stage are Sabrina Watson (Paula Patton, Ms. Rain in "Precious") and Jason Taylor (Laz Alonso, known to some as Det. Gil Puente from the TV series "Southland").  They meet cute in New York, just after Sabrina has promised God she will not give away her "cookie" to anyone other than her future husband.

Fast forward six months, to the wedding weekend, cookie still undelivered.

Movies: "Thor"

So you want to make a summer blockbuster?  Here’s all you have to do.

First, option a Marvel Comics hero -- any one of them should do the trick.  Next, scrape together a jillion dollars for special effects and hire a small army of (mostly French) CG professionals.  Then find yourself an appealing leading man -- say, blond Australian hunk Chris Hemsworth (Thor).  Toss in a few big name supporting actors like Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), Anthony Hopkins (Odin) and Rene Russo (Frigga, and please don’t snicker).

How do I get people to convert on my site?

The above is a common question asked by many business owners about their websites. The simplest answer is to create a user conversion strategy that you test and improve over time.

Trail Run - With a View

Trail Run - With a View

I'm running a trail race at the end of May and thought Robinson's Woods would be a good practice run. It didn't disappoint, if you've never been, it's a great place to walk or run, and dog-friendly. Not to mention, there is a beautiful view of the ocean if you cross Shore Road.
