Award-Winning Novelists Paul Harding and Sarah Braunstein to Present at Maine Festival of the Book

PORTLAND, Maine – Paul Harding, winner of the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for fiction for Tinkers, and Sarah Braunstein, named one of 2010’s “5 under 35” fiction writers by the National Book Foundation for her novel The Sweet Relief of Missing Children, will present at the Maine Festival of the Book on Saturday, April 2 at 9:30 am at the Abromson Center, University of Southern Maine, Portland.  Admission is free and seats are available first-come, first served.

In a program titled “Wrestling a Book into the World,” Harding and Braunstein will talk about art, hysteria, and the long process of bringing a book into existence.  They will each also read from their acclaimed debut novels.

Call for Artists: Paint for Preservation 2011

The Cape Elizabeth Land Trust (CELT) announces that it is accepting artist submissions for Paint for Preservation 2011, the organization’s fourth annual juried Wet Paint Auction to be held on Sunday, July 17, 2011.  Artist entries will be juried by Dennis Gleason of Gleason Fine Art Galleries.
 
On the day of the event, juried artists will paint onsite at designated public and private locations chosen to highlight Cape Elizabeth’s natural beauty.  That evening, the newly painted artwork will be auctioned at a cocktail reception at Ram Island Farm in Cape Elizabeth. Proceeds from the event benefit the Cape Elizabeth Land Trust’s Saving Cape’s Great Places initiative.

Interested artists are invited to submit two images of original paintings in any medium for juried consideration.  Samples may be submitted as digital images on CD or electronically via email.

Portland, Maine –– February 17, 2011 –– The sights & sounds, tastes & FUN of New Orleans will be experienced Saturday March 5, 2011 at the Annual Mardi Gras Ball, a true Big Easy-style fête that will have revelers dancing to live music of Robert Sylvain & the Cajun Aces, in Portland’s only Grand Ballroom at the Eastland Park Hotel.
Chef Marc Bell will create a multi-course meal with authentic Louisiana cuisine, and each partygoer will receive Mardi Gras beads, throws, and a chance to win several valuable door prizes. Dessert will be provided with dinner, so a King Cake will be presented to a lucky guest to keep their party going till Fat Tuesday!

Gregory Alan Isakov has been described by The Boulder Weekly as "Strong, subtle, a lyrical genious" and has been compared to his influences, Bruce Springsteen, Kelly Joe Phelps, Iron & Wine and Gillian Welch. Gregory's humble presence and his overwhelming voice and guitar style has been treasured by an ever-growing and captivated fan base.

 

Born In Johannesburg, South Africa, Gregory immigrated to the States with his family and grew up in the Philadelphia area. In 1999 he sought out his solo acoustic roots and moved to Colorado where he now resides.
