Reindeer's High School Band Competition to Benefit Teen Agencies

Reindeer's High School Band Competition to Benefit Teen Agencies

The statewide high school rock band competition called The Off-Ramp is rounding the fourth curve and heading into the homestretch-but not before the nine competing bands learn a lesson in giving back to the community. The Off-Ramp is the brainchild of Reindeer Records, the creators of the popular Rock-Off competition that helped out thousands of young musicians since it began in 1984. The new competition is designed to provide a more intense learning experience for the young competitors and leave a long-lasting impact on their peers. Since being selected in November, the bands have had to face various music-industry tasks-songwriting, video documenting their recording studio experience, and marketing. Their fourth task is Live Event Production, for which Reindeer created three teams of three bands with the goal of producing an all-ages show to benefit designated youth groups.

South Portland’s Cancer Community Center Selected as a Stop on 12-City Book Tour

South Portland, Maine (March 8, 2011) – Maine Native, Susan Conley, has begun her twelve-city national book tour.  The Cancer Community Center in South Portland will be one of her first stops on Tuesday, March 15th from 6-7 pm. Her new breast cancer memoir, The Foremost Good Fortune chronicles Susan’s experience of breast cancer while living with her family in Beijing, China.

Praised by Publishers Weekly as a book that "pulls the reader into her world like a close friend," Susan’s writing offers a compelling look at how breast cancer affects the whole family system, and traces how she and her family came to a place of understanding within the world of cancer.
Pre-registration is highly encouraged for this popular book reading and discussion session.

The 7-voice Touring Ensemble of the Maine Gay Men’s Chorus (MGMC) will present As Long As You Love Me, with a new line-up of songs including an a cappella arrangement of Toto's "Africa", and the premier performances of a new song: "My House" is a delightful gem about first love.
